Working with Autism Workshop
Workshop in Abuja 20th, 21st & 22nd January 2015
The Dickens Sanomi Foundation will be holding an Autism workshop in Abuja on the 20th-22nd January 2015, from 9am to 3pm each day.
Educate, Equip, Empower
The goal of the workshop is to educate professionals about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), equip professionals with effective strategies for positive change, and to empower individuals to facilitate the learning and development of the impacted child.
Not until the middle of the twentieth century was there a name for a disorder that now appears to affect an estimated 3-4 of every 1,000 children ages 3-10, a disorder that causes a disruption in families and unfulfilled lives for many children. Research in 2009 suggests that autism now affects 1 in 110 children (Mental Health 2010). ASD is becoming more prevalent, at an alarming rate. Unfortunately, the education of what autism is and how to work with individuals with the disorder is not as common. Moreover, in many parts of the world, the reality of ASD remains shrouded in mystery.
Our workshop will discuss, in depth, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), the background, application, and effectiveness of it, as well as provide specific strategies on how to implement ABA.
Throughout the workshop, participants will learn about various topics in ABA and have the opportunity to implement those areas, while receiving feedback from trained professionals. This will enhance the learning experience and increase effectiveness.
Trainers at the workshop will include:
Akpobome Patricia Wodi, M.D., FAAP
Harlens Michel, M.S., MFT
Sabrina Omega, M.S., BCBA
Janessa Domingues, M.S., BCBA
