The DSF Spelling Bee Final 2014
And the winners are...
Friday the 11th of April 2014 saw the final of the first annual Dickens Sanomi Foundation Spelling Bee competition. Hosted at the Midel Centre in Gudu District, Abuja, 30 students from the 10 participating government junior secondary schools were competing; three students, one from each grade (JSS1, JSS2 and JSS3) would win a year’s supply of books recommended by the Education Board and donated by DSF. The students competing, as well as their schools, were all very excited about the prize on offer as buying text books can be extremely difficult, so winning would be a great opportunity.
There was a strong turn out at the final, which was full of excitement and tense moments. This year’s winners, all of whom are students at Junior Secondary School Jabi, were presented their prizes by Dickens Sanomi Foundation director, Mrs Keji Graham-Douglas.
The winners were:
- Victor Onoja from JSS1
- Yetunde Tyani from JSS2
- Patience Ukeje from JSS3
Following the success of this year’s event, the Dickens Sanomi Foundation hopes to expand the competition next year to include a much larger pool of schools in the Abuja region.
