Dickens Sanomi Essay Competition Closes - Judges Announced
The Dickens Sanomi Essay Competition 2013 is now closed for entries and we would like to thank all students who have submitted their work. The judging process will shortly be underway, and will be carried out by the DSF team and two experienced, published writers, Mr Elnathan John and Mr Eghosa Imasuen.
Elnathan John is a lawyer, journalist and writer. He contributes to the Sunday Trust, The Daily Times and Metropole, and has had work published in a range of other titles including ZAM Magazine, Per Contra, Evergreen Review and the Caine Prize for African Writing Anthology 2013. He is currently working on a novel and his second volume of short stories. If you’re not already familiar with it, you can find examples of his politically charged and darkly humorous writing on his blog: http://elnathanjohn.blogspot.co.uk/.
Eghosa Imasuen is both an author and a medical doctor. His published work includes a number of magazine pieces in online titles such as Black Biro and The New Gong, plus the critically acclaimed novels To Saint Patrick and Fine Boys. Eghosa’s books are published by the Farafina imprint of Kachifo Limited and in August this year he was appointed to the role of Chief Operating Officer for the company. The competition winners, who will receive scholarships of up to N450,000 towards their school fees, will be announced at an awards ceremony that will take place at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on 3rd October. The ceremony will be attended by groups of children from the winners’ schools, and will feature a presentation on the topic of global warming, plus a discussion on social media led by Abang Mercy, the well known journalist, environmental consultant and political commentator. A guest list of dignitaries and VIPs is also being assembled. Watch this space for more information!
