Dickens Sanomi Annual Essay Competition Winners For 2013
The winners of the Dickens Sanomi Annual Essay Competition for 2013 are:
1st Place: Amadi Nnenna of the University of Nigeria Secondary School in Enugu State
2nd Place: Adeyanju Damiola of Maverick College, Ibadan, Oyo State
3rd Place: Maxiwell Balla Nvani of Hope Waddel Training Institution, Calabar, Cross River State
1st Place: Oladapo Bello of Kings College, Lagos State
2nd Place: Mayo Rebeccah Agamah of Junior Secondary School, Karu, Abuja
3rd Place: Onyinanya Emmanuel of the Junior Secondary School, Zone 1, Wuse, Abuja
The winners were announced at an awards ceremony that took place at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on the evening of 3rd October 2013. The winners in each category received scholarships to the value N400,000, with grants of a further N500,000 for their schools to spend on facilities and equipment.
The MC for the event was the popular DJ from Radio Kool FM Abuja, Kryss D’boss. He was assisted in the prize giving by a selection of VIPs and Dickens Sanomi Foundation representatives. These included Mrs Eghogho Sanomi, CEO of the Midel Group and a Foundation trustee; Mrs Keji Graham-Douglas, the Foundation’s Executive Director; Dr Eghosa Imasuen, author and competition judge; Dr Emman Usman Shehu of the International Institute of Journalism in Abuja, plus representatives of the Universal Basic Education Board and the Secondary Education Board. A delegation from the World Bank was also present.
The event was attended by children from public and private schools in Abuja. In addition to the prize giving it also featured a presentation on the topic of global warming and a discussion on social media led by Abang Mercy, the well-known journalist, environmental consultant and political commentator.
