In Celebration of World Book Day 2014
The DSF World Book Day 2014 celebration which included the distribution of WAEC Syllabus literature books to senior Secondary Schools in Abuja was a huge success.
The DSF commenced the celebration by visiting the Army Day Secondary School Asokoro. This is the most populated school with the largest indigenous people of Abuja among the selected six Government schools.
Mr Yakubu, a representative from the Secondary Education Board started the event with the National Anthem, followed by an introduction and a brief speech on the events of the day. He was followed by the Principal of the Army Day Secondary School, Mr Knatnubwa Amos, and the PTA (Parent Teacher Association) Chairman, Mr Aminu Junaidu. Mr Amos acknowledged the Dickens Sanomi Foundation staff and expressed how honoured he was to have representatives of the Dickens Sanomi Foundation in their school.
Mrs Keji Graham-Douglas the Executive Director of the Dickens Sanomi Foundation was called upon by Mr Yakubu to elaborate more on what the event was about. Mrs Graham-Douglas was able to give a clear insight on the annual celebration of World Book Day, what the selected literature book, The Purple Hibiscus, is all about, who the book will be used by and how it can help the children. Mrs Graham-Douglas then presented 50 copies of The Purple Hibiscus to the Principal of the Army Day Secondary School and a vote of thanks was given by the PTA chairman.
